Assam Police Arrests ULFA-I Link Man in Duliajan; IED, Pistol Recovered

In a breakthrough, the Assam police have arrested a suspected linkman of the ULFA-Independent in Dibrugarh’s Duliajan on Friday night.

The arrested individual has been identified as Bitupan Gogoi alias Bablu.

As per inputs, a 7.65 mm pistol, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) along with cash was recovered from the possession of Bitupan.

The accused was involved in extortion in and around the Sepon Tea Estate.

Earlier, on December 17, National Investigation Agency (NIA), with the assistance of Assam Police arrested a key operative of the banned terrorist outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (Ulfa-I), for allegedly planting IEDs in Guwahati on the last Independence Day.

The agency said the accused confessed to planting IEDs at Pan Bazar, Dispur, Gandhi Mandap, and Satgaon in Guwahati.

The joint team of NIA and police carried out searches at the house of Jahnu Baruah, alias Arnab Axom, in Dibrugarh in an intelligence-based operation conducted.

The NIA said it seized several incriminating materials, including digital devices, during the search, which are currently under examination.
