Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Sanjay Kumar Jain said, "Immigrants were transferred from Bangladesh through the northeast before being moved to major cities like Delhi."
In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have busted a well-organized racket facilitating the illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals into India, with strong links to the northeastern states.
Highlighting the crucial role played by the northeastern states in the trafficking operation, Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Sanjay Kumar Jain said, “Immigrants were transferred from Bangladesh through the northeast before being moved to major cities like Delhi, where they were provided with fake documents, enabling them to stay in India illegally,” said Police.”
The Delhi Police recently arrested 4 more people including 2 Bangladeshi nationals and 2 Indian facilitators in the Fatehpur Beri area of South Delhi in connection with the ongoing crackdown on illegal migrants.
The arrested Bangladeshi couple, Bilal Hosen and Tanya Khan, had illegally entered India through the porous border in Meghalaya, using what is commonly known as the “donkey route.”
The arrested Indian nationals have been identified as– Aminur Ishlam from Assam and Ashish Mehra from Gurugram. They had been instrumental in facilitating the illegal migration and providing forged identification documents.
Police also recovered several incriminating items including 4 Aadhaar cards, 18 credit and debit cards, 2 PAN cards, 6 cheque books, 2 bank passbooks, a copy of a voting card, and an Indian passport application form from their possession.
With this latest arrest, the Delhi Police have now arrested and deported at least 30 illegal Bangladeshi migrants in the last 3 days.
Joint Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Sanjay Kumar Jain today said that the investigation has revealed a deep connection between the racket and the northeastern states of India.
He said that Aminur Ishlam was responsible for transporting illegal immigrants from Baghmara, a border district in Meghalaya, to Krishnai and Bongaigaon railway stations in Assam. He was apprehended from the Damra Out-Checkpost in Assam and brought to Delhi under a transit remand.
