First Published: 31st December, 2024 16:43 IST

Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang has issued a safety advisory for tourists visiting the region’s high-altitude destinations.

In light of the extreme weather conditions during winter, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Kanki Darang has issued a safety advisory for tourists visiting the region’s high-altitude destinations. The advisory aims to ensure public safety and prevent accidents during travel to popular spots such as Bumla Pass, Shongetser Lake, PT Tso, and Sela Pass.

Here are the safety guidelines:

Weather Awareness
1/ Always check updated weather forecasts and road conditions before embarking on your journey.
2/ Avoid travelling to mountainous areas during heavy snowfall or adverse weather conditions.

Travel Precautions
1/ Equip vehicles with non-skid chains to prevent accidents.
2/ Travelers prone to or diagnosed with high-altitude sickness should refrain from visiting elevated areas like Bumla Pass or Sela Pass to prevent health complications.
3/ Pack adequate warm clothing, emergency kits, and reliable communication devices to handle unforeseen situations

Outdoor Activities
1/ While the frozen lakes in Tawang offer breathtaking views, the ice may not support human weight. Tourists are strictly advised against stepping onto frozen surfaces.
2/ Visitors are requested to maintain Tawang’s pristine environment by avoiding littering. Use designated dustbins and refrain from carrying single-use plastics or non-biodegradable materials.

Follow Local Authorities’ Instructions
1/ In case of emergencies, tourists should follow directions from local authorities, tour guides, or rescue teams to ensure safety.
2/ Additionally, all stakeholders, including Inner Line Permit (ILP) issuing authorities in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and EAC Bhalukpong, have been requested to inform tourists about these guidelines to promote safe travel.
