Security forces, including personnel from the Manipur Police, the Army, and other CAPFs, swiftly mobilised to counter the miscreants.

Christmas celebrations turned tragic as heavy crossfiring erupted between armed miscreants and security forces late on Christmas Night in the villages of Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, and Sabungkhok Khunou, located in Manipur’s Imphal East near the Kangpokpi District border.

The violence, marked by the sound of automatic weapons and flare mortar shells lighting up the night sky, began around 9 PM and continued until 1 AM, sending shockwaves through the festive atmosphere. The situation prompted panic among residents, who scrambled for safety as the relentless gunfire shattered the calm of the festivities.

Security forces, including personnel from the Yaingangpokpi Police Station, the Army, and other Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), swiftly mobilised to counter the miscreants. Reports suggest that ambulances were seen rushing to the scene, hinting at possible casualties among the attackers.

This late-night attack followed another earlier incident in Sinam Kom village in the same district. Armed miscreants from Kangpokpi launched an assault during the early morning hours, forcing villagers to endure a day of terror.

The back-to-back incidents have left residents of the border areas in fear and disrupted the festive spirit. Authorities are on high alert, with intensified security measures being implemented to prevent further violence.
