Drivers are advised to slow down and drive at reduced speed and to use low-beam headlights for better visibility.
In light of the foggy weather conditions that have significantly reduced visibility across Assam, the state government has issued comprehensive guidelines for all road users to minimize the risk of accidents.
The government urged everyone to adhere to these safety measures to ensure safer roads during the foggy season.
The government has urged the public to follow some Do’s and Don’ts to reduce risks during foggy weather:
Here are the key guidelines:
Do’s For All Road Users:
- Drivers are advised to slow down and drive at reduced speed and to use low-beam headlights for better visibility.
- Drivers are urged to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.
- They are asked to ensure their vehicle’s headlights, taillights, and windshield wipers are in good working condition.
- Drivers are advised to use fog lights if available and signal turns well in advance and avoid distractions like using mobile phones while driving.
- Additionally, people are asked to save emergency helpline numbers, such as 112 for police assistance and 108 for medical emergencies, for quick access in case of emergencies.
For Two-Wheeler Riders:
Riders are asked to wear reflective jackets and ensure their taillights are functioning to remain visible and asked to maintain a steady speed and avoid abrupt stops.
For Heavy Vehicle Drivers (Trucks/Buses):
Drivers are asked to stick to the leftmost lane and avoid overtaking in foggy conditions and use hazard lights to warn other drivers.
For Pedestrians and Cyclists:
Pedestrians and cyclists are urged to ensure visibility to drivers by wearing bright or reflective clothing. They are also advised to walk or cycle on designated sides of the road and avoid crossing in unmarked areas.
Don’ts for All Road Users:
- Drivers are asked not to overspend, as high speeds increase accident risks in fog.
- Drivers are urged not to use high beams, as they reduce visibility by reflecting off the fog.
- Drivers are asked not to tailgate, as close following can lead to collisions.
- They are advised not to stop abruptly on the road. If necessary, they should move off the road and use hazard lights.
- The public is urged not to travel in dense fog unless absolutely necessary.
By following these do’s and don’ts, road users can help reduce accidents and ensure safer travel during foggy conditions. The Assam government encourages everyone to stay alert, drive carefully, and work together to make the roads safer for all.
