This development signals a proactive step towards resolving SSA teachers' challenges.

The Meghalaya SSA Schools Association (MSSASA), led by its president Aristotle Rymbai, has revealed that the state education department is preparing a comprehensive blueprint to address the longstanding issues faced by SSA teachers. The blueprint, focusing on job security policies, is expected to be presented to the cabinet on 10 January 2025 for approval.

MSSASA President Aristotle Rymbai said, “The Commissioner and Secretary of Education Department inform us that probably on 10th of January 2025 the education department will present the blueprint about how to solve the long pending issues of the SSE teachers and to come up with a policy about job security of SSE teachers in the state of Meghalaya.”

He further stated, “The same action plan was present in front of all of us today. So probably on the 5th or 10th of January 2025, it will be placed before the cabinet and a call to the cabinet regarding this action plan prepared by the Education Department. The Commissioner Secretary informed us that very soon the government will issue an advertisement about the vacant post in government LP and UP school in the state. The Secretary of the Education Department also informed us that those teachers who have passed their DLED from NIOS the batch 2017-19 which is the online batch, also can appear or can apply this in that vacant post to be advertised.”

The announcement followed the third meeting between the government and MSSASA, chaired by Commissioner and Secretary of the Education Department, Vijay Kumar Mantri.

Key officials, including the Secretary of Education, the Director of Shillong Education, and the Deputy State Project Director, were present. During the meeting, MSSASA submitted resolutions passed at their general meeting held at the Student Field in Jaiaw, Shillong.

The government also plans to advertise vacant posts in lower and upper primary schools across Meghalaya. Eligible candidates include teachers from the NIOS D.El.Ed batches of 2017 and 2019.

Additionally, a special Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is proposed, with a reduced pass percentage for in-service teachers, lowering the requirement from 55% to 45%. Before finalising the proposal, the government will consult the Advocate General to ensure legal compliance, particularly for SSA teachers who joined on or before 1 July 2020.

This development signals a proactive step towards resolving SSA teachers’ challenges.
