Manipur Government Destroys Over 200 Acres of Illicit Poppy Plantations in 2 Months

Continuing its War on Drugs, the Manipur government has destroyed over 200 acres of illegal poppy plantations within two months, that is from November-till now.
The Manipur government has intensified its fight against drug production and trafficking by uprooting illicit poppy plantations across the state.
Between November 26 and December 12, authorities destroyed approximately 200.76 acres of poppy fields in multiple operations conducted in various districts.
Legal action has been initiated against village chairman and individuals involved in poppy cultivation.
Here is a detailed Breakdown of the Operations
November 26:
Manipur Police, assisted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), destroyed 12 acres of poppy fields in Makhan Village, located in Kangpokpi District.
December 5:
A coordinated effort by the Senapati District Police, Forest Department, and District Administration led to the destruction of 8.76 acres of poppy fields in the Makuilongdi and Thonglang Atongba hill ranges. The plants were in their early flowering stage, and a case has been registered to investigate the matter further.
December 7:
A team comprising officials from the Manipur Police, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate targeted a poppy plantation at Mao Pungdong under Mao Police Station. The operation resulted in the destruction of one acre of poppy fields. Legal action against the village chairman is underway.
December 9:
A major operation was carried out in the hill range of Sihai Khullen village in Ukhrul District, where around 55 acres of poppy plantations were destroyed. Additionally, five huts located in the fields were burned down. Authorities have filed an FIR and are working to identify those involved.
December 10:
In Thonglang Akutpa village, Kangpokpi District, a joint operation by the Manipur Police and Forest Department led to the destruction of 14 acres of poppy cultivation. An FIR has been registered as investigations continue.
December 12:
A massive operation in the Khamasom hill ranges, Ukhrul District, saw the combined efforts of Ukhrul District Police, Forest Department, 18 Assam Rifles, and district administration. The team uprooted 110 acres of poppy plantations and set fire to eight huts found on-site. FIRs have been lodged, and investigations are ongoing.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating poppy cultivation and tackling drug trafficking in the state. Recently, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren has also warned of strict legal action against anyone involved in such illicit activities.
