Earlier in the morning, the 33rd Nupi Lal Ningsing Lamjel (Nupi Lal Memorial Run) was organised by the State Level Nupi Lal Ningsing Lamjel Organizing Committee. The run commenced from the Nupi Lal Memorial Complex and concluded at Singjamei, symbolising the beginning of the historic movement.

RD & PR Minister Yumnam Khemchand flagged off the event and said, the people’s desire for peace and normalcy in Manipur. He also highlighted the inclusive nature of the memorial run, with women from all communities, including tribal groups, actively participating.
About Nupi Lal:
Nupi Lal Day commemorates the historic women’s uprising of 1939, when Manipuri women united against the unregulated export of rice that led to severe famine-like conditions in the state. The movement began as a protest against foreign merchants exporting rice, which left local residents struggling for food.
Despite brutal repression, including violent confrontations with British authorities, the courageous women of Manipur persisted. Their demands for an embargo on rice exports were eventually met, leaving a legacy of unity and resilience that continues to inspire generations.
