Two temples in Pakyong District of Sikkim were targeted on a single night. Robbers decamped with cash and valuables from both the temples. The thefts occurred at the Pancha Kanya Devi Mandir near Amba Gram Panchayat Kendra and the Satakshi Mandir in Kaputhang Busty on December 9 night.
At the Pancha Kanya Devi Mandir, thieves broke the main door lock and looted uncounted cash from the donation box, along with five brass thalis, a Shivalinga, and several brass jugs. Following a police chase, the stolen items were recovered from an abandoned vehicle in Chalamthang Pithang, Amba Block.
At the Satakshi Mandir, miscreants broke in and stole cash from the donation box, as well as temple bells, brass utensils, and plates.
The Rorathang police acted swiftly, recovering stolen items and the vehicle used in the first theft. Investigations are underway, with leads already identified, though no arrests have been made yet.
Local authorities have assured the community that every effort is being made to apprehend the culprits and enhance security for religious establishments, urging vigilance to prevent such incidents in the future.
