Syiem further revealed that the second phase, covering the 38.6 km Umden-Sonapur stretch, has been approved under the PMGSY

The Meghalaya government has sanctioned Rs 49.53 crore for the first phase of the highly anticipated 20-kilometer Nongpoh-Umden road project.

UDP legislator from Nongpoh Mayralborn Syiem announced this development on Friday, stating that the government has accorded administrative approval for the first part of the road project.

Syiem further revealed that the second phase, covering the 38.6 km Umden-Sonapur stretch, has been approved under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) III with a funding allocation of Rs 47.20 crore.

The tender process for both phases is expected to begin by early December, with the project set to be awarded to contractors meeting the required criteria. Syiem expressed optimism about the timely completion of the project, noting that the people of the area were eagerly awaiting its construction.

He also highlighted that the delay in starting the project was due to financial constraints, which led to the decision to split it into two phases funded by the State and the central PMGSY scheme.

The completion of the Nongpoh-Umden road is expected to greatly improve connectivity for local communities, benefiting over 200 villages along the route.
