TMC’s Nongtymmai Block Dissolved, Members Join Cong, Triggers Speculation if TMC Chief Charles Pyngrope Will Follow Suit

Lyngdoh expressed confidence that more leaders, potentially seven to eight sitting legislators, are showing interest in joining the Congress.
In a significant political development in Meghalaya, the Nongtymmai block of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has been dissolved, with a large number of leaders and supporters of Meghalaya TMC President Charles Pyngrope joining the Congress Party.
An induction ceremony to welcome these leaders was held at Congress Bhawan yesterday, raising speculation about Pyngrope’s political future and a potential return to the Congress.
Allan Victor Lyngdoh, the former leader of the TMC Nongtymmai block, confirmed the mass defection and stated, “From today, there is no Trinamool Congress member in my constituency. We have enrolled around 1,300 new members into the Congress, and the registration is still ongoing.”
The shift has sparked discussions about broader political realignments in the state. Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, Leader of the Opposition and Congress MLA, hinted at significant political developments. While acknowledging the legal constraints posed by the anti-defection law, Lyngdoh expressed confidence that more leaders, potentially seven to eight sitting legislators, are showing interest in joining the Congress ahead of the 2028 Assembly elections.
He stated, “This step of joining the Congress from TMC sends a loud and clear message to the people of Meghalaya. The block president himself dissolved the TMC and joined the Congress with all his supporters today.”
