Online Fraudsters Bishal Phukan, Swapnanil Das, Tarkik Borah Gets Bail as CBI Fails To File Chargesheet On Time

In a significant development in the multi-crore online trading scam in Assam, 3 of the 8 accused-mastermind Bishal Phukan, Tarkik Borah and Swapnil Das were granted bail today as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) failed to file a chargesheet within the stipulated time period.

However, Sumi Borah, another key accused in the scam, was denied bail and continues to be held in judicial custody at the Guwahati Central Jail.

Earlier, Tarkik Borah’s brother, Amlan Borah, who was also arrested for his alleged involvement in the case was granted bail.

Sumi, along with her husband Tarkik Borah, was arrested on September 12 after the couple surrendered before Dibrugarh Police.

The multi-crore scam, which involved fraudulent online trading schemes, came to light following the arrest of the alleged mastermind Bishal Phukan on September 2.

The scam, which defrauded investors of nearly Rs 2,000 crore.

Swapnil Das was arrested on September 4.

The accused are alleged to have duped thousands of investors by promising high returns through fake online trading platforms.

The investigation is underway, with the CBI working to build a case against the accused and recover the defrauded amounts.
