The committee has been tasked with submitting its report within 15 days, providing necessary recommendations for corrective action.
The two-member inquiry committee set up by the Union Ministry of Education, led by Professor D.P. Singh, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), reached Northeast hill University (NEHU) today morning to investigate the serious concerns raised by NEHU Students Union and NEHU Teachers Association against the Vice Chancellor Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla.
According to sources, the commission led by Professor D.P. Singh, former Chairman of the University Grants Commission with Professor Dilip Chandra Nath as the other member, are now speaking to the students about their grievances and will be speaking to the teachers and professors later in the evening. They also demand to remove the present VC.
According to an official order issued by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education, the committee will investigate several critical issues, including NEHU’s significant decline in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings, which has been attributed to administrative negligence.
Allegations of irregular appointments, particularly of the Registrar and Deputy Registrar, have also been flagged as contributing to operational inefficiencies. Reports of infrastructural neglect, including inadequate maintenance and poor basic amenities, have added to the grievances, alongside complaints of non-responsiveness from the Vice-Chancellor, who has allegedly ignored repeated demands for reforms from student bodies.
The committee has been tasked with submitting its report within 15 days, providing necessary recommendations for corrective action. The Ministry’s order has directed university authorities to fully cooperate by offering all required documentation and assistance to the inquiry team.
