He defeated BPF’s Shuddho Kumar Basumatary, who received 58,227 votes, and Congress’s Sanjib Warie, who garnered 7,634 votes.

The United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL)’s Nirmal Kumar Brahma won the Sidli seat with 95,243 votes defeating his nearest rival Shuddho Kumar Basumatary of the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) who polled 58,227 votes.

Congress’s Sanjib Warie managed to get just 7,634 votes in the bypolls, voting for which was held on November 13.
This was Brahma’s first election. His victory maintains UPPL’s hold on the Sidli seat, which was previously won by Joyanta Basumatary in the 2021 Assam Assembly elections with 97,087 votes.

The by-election was necessitated after Basumatary vacated the seat after his election to the Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.

Brahma’s win further strengthened UPPL’s position in the Bodoland Territorial Region as the leading party. UPPL is already heading the Bodoland Territorial Council.
