Meghalaya’s Cricketing Revolution: Naba Bhattacharjee Plans Better Training Facilities for Women’s Cricket

With over 15 years of experience in cricket administration, Bhattacharjee has played a key role in shaping the future of cricket in Meghalaya.
Naba Bhattacharjee, the President of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, has outlined a bold and ambitious vision for the growth of women’s cricket in both Meghalaya and India.
Speaking in Shillong after being appointed the Manager of the Indian Senior Women’s Cricket Team for their upcoming ODI series against Australia, Bhattacharjee expressed confidence that Meghalaya is on the brink of a cricketing revolution, particularly in women’s cricket.
Bhattacharjee further revealed plans to establish a state-of-the-art indoor training facility in Ri Bhoi, which will play a crucial role in nurturing young cricketing talent in the state.
He also highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance cricket infrastructure in Shillong and other regions, providing aspiring cricketers with the necessary resources and opportunities to develop their skills. “In the next decade, we expect women’s cricket in Meghalaya to grow exponentially, reflecting the enthusiasm and talent we see today,” Bhattacharjee said.
The series, part of the ICC Women’s Championship (2022-2025), will feature India facing Australia in Brisbane on December 4 and 7, and in Perth on December 10. The Indian team is scheduled to depart for Brisbane on November 30.
With over 15 years of experience in cricket administration, Bhattacharjee has played a key role in shaping the future of cricket in Meghalaya. His contributions include securing permanent membership for the state with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2018 and representing the region in important BCCI committees.
Notably, in 2017, he was part of a seven-member panel, which included prominent figures like Jay Shah, Rajeev Shukla, and Sourav Ganguly, to review reforms proposed by the Justice R.M. Lodha Committee. Bhattacharjee was also involved in organizing international matches between India and the West Indies in Florida in 2016, as part of a BCCI delegation.
