As Operation Crackdown continues, security forces remain vigilant against potential insurgent activities and aim to prevent any disruptions.
In a major coordinated offensive, security forces in Upper Assam are intensifying efforts against ULFA (I) insurgent networks, with Assam Police, Military Intelligence, and Assam Rifles arresting two additional overground workers on November 11, bringing the total to 16 detained operatives since the start of “Operation Crackdown” on October 25.
Led by the Assam Police’s North East Region (NER) division, under Inspector General of Police (IGP) Satyaraj Hazarika, the operation also involves Military Intelligence and the 24 Assam Rifles, operating under HQ 25 Sector Assam Rifles. This intelligence-driven mission aims to dismantle ULFA (I)’s overground worker network in Eastern Assam and curb potential insurgent threats as key dates like ULFA (I) Protest Day on November 28 and Republic Day on January 26 approach.
In the latest development, forces carried out an intensive raid near the Assam-Nagaland-Arunachal Pradesh border, apprehending Hemanta Mohan (25), son of Hiteswar Mohan from Tengapukhuri Mohangaon, and Raju Dey (27), son of Kukun Dey from Belengbari Gaon, both under Mathurapur Police Station in Charaideo district. Initial investigations revealed both individuals were in contact with a known ULFA (I) operative, Wangpen (also known as Ranapio), from Tiru village, connected to ULFA (I) Brigadier Ganesh Lahon.
Over the last two weeks, 14 overground workers and two active ULFA (I) cadres have been detained. Notable arrests include Rinku Nath from Sivasagar and Tulsi Gogoi from Charaideo, both apprehended on November 7 for recruiting and financing ULFA (I) activities. They reportedly maintained ties with high-ranking ULFA (I) leaders, including SS Brigadier Ganesh Lahon and SS Major General Nayan Medi.
Further joint operations on November 9 in Tinsukia and Majuli districts resulted in the capture of two active cadres, Bhaiti Pagag and Kulang Moran, who were linked with senior ULFA (I) leaders, such as SS Lieutenant General Michel Dekha Pukhan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief at the General Military Headquarters (GMHQ) of ULFA (I).
Authorities have affirmed their commitment to neutralizing ULFA (I)’s influence in the region and ensuring the safety and stability of Upper Assam. As Operation Crackdown continues, security forces remain vigilant against potential insurgent activities and aim to prevent any disruptions during upcoming significant events.
