The event was officially flagged off this morning at the Tawang Walkthrough Market by MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering.

The Tawang Cycling Association, led by Dr. Dukhum Magu and sponsored by the Arunachal Pradesh Department of Tourism, has kicked off Monduro 4.0, celebrated as the world’s highest enduro mountain biking race.

Part of the Asia Enduro Series (AES), the event has attracted riders from across India and eight foreign countries to Tawang, a region known for its rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes.

The event was officially flagged off this morning at the Tawang Walkthrough Market by MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering, alongside Tawang Brigade Commander Brigadier VS Rajput. The opening ceremony was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tawang, Sang Khandu, District Tourism Officer Tsering Deki, and other senior officials.

Starting from an elevation of 14,400 feet and descending to 8,000 feet, Monduro 4.0 is widely regarded as one of the world’s toughest mountain biking races. Among this year’s competitors are UCI World Champion 2024, Alex Rudeau from France, and Neerav Shrestha, Nepal’s reigning downhill champion, alongside other accomplished riders in the enduro circuit.

In his opening remarks, MLA Namgey Tsering highlighted that Monduro 4.0 is expected to bolster Tawang’s tourism, drawing attention to the natural beauty of Arunachal Pradesh. He praised Dr. Magu and the Tawang Cycling Association team for incorporating traditional foot trails, once used by Tawang residents for travel and trade with Tibet, into the race route. This adds a historical element to the event, linking modern sport with cultural heritage.

Brigadier VS Rajput also addressed the participants, extending his best wishes and emphasizing the event’s role in building resilience and camaraderie among competitors. Dawa, an executive member of the Tawang Cycling Association, shared a message of encouragement, motivating participants to embrace the challenge ahead.

Organizers have scheduled practice sessions on November 10 and 11 to help participants acclimatize to Tawang’s high-altitude conditions before the final race on November 13 and 14.
