In a tragic incident, a 65-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by his 34-year-old son in Tripura’s capital Agartala on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Kajal Das, a retired person of the state Fisheries department was hit by his son with an iron rod, leading to his immediate death at their residence in College Tilla of West Tripura district.
As per neighbours’ statement, the accused Abhrajit allegedly attacked his father following an argument about a dispute.
Police officials, including SDPO Sadar Deba Prasad Roy and teams from Agartala East police station and College Tilla outpost, swiftly responded to the scene upon learning of the incident.
The accused, who had fled the scene before police arrived, was apprehended later that night.
Neighbours informed the police that Abhrajit, who reportedly has a history of addiction and violent behaviour, had often physically assaulted his father in the past.
According to locals, Kajal Das had recently sold a piece of land, and his son allegedly demanded money from the sale, leading to tension between the two.
The tragic death of Kajal Das has sent shockwaves through the College Tilla area, as just over a month ago, another elderly woman in the district was allegedly murdered by her sons and daughter-in-law, highlighting growing concerns about crimes against elderly individuals in the region.
An investigation is underway, and police are probing potential motives, including financial disputes and the suspect’s addiction issues, to determine the exact cause of the deadly altercation.
