SD: SUSA criticized the university for its lack of preparedness in handling medical emergencies.

The death of Nirav Giri, a first-semester student of Sikkim University has ignited widespread outrage among students after Nirav died of a heart attack on October 18.

Students claimed that his life could have been saved if adequate healthcare facilities had been available on campus.

The Sikkim University Students Association (SUSA) has sharply criticized the University authorities, holding it accountable for Giri’s death in the University’s Yangang campus.

In a statement, SUSA criticized the authorities for its lack of preparedness in handling medical emergencies. The statement also highlighted the absence of ambulance and basic medical facilities, critical life-saving kits in the University campus.

Despite being a Central University, Sikkim University has failed to adhere to the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, which mandate proper healthcare provisions for student welfare, the SUSA alleged. This lack of preparedness resulted in the loss of the ‘golden hour,’ a crucial window in which medical care could have saved Nirav’s life, the aggrieved students said in the statement.
