Sikkim Forest & Environment Dept and Global Tiger Forum Join Hands For Tiger Conservation In The State

In a significant move for wildlife conservation in Sikkim, the Forest & Environment Department have joined hands with the Global Tiger Forum (GTF) to address critical issues surrounding tiger conservation in the Eastern Himalayas.
The programme was chaired by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) -cum-Secretary of The Forests & Environment Department (F&ED) Dr Pradeep Kumar, Indian Foreign Service in the presence of Dr Rajesh Gopal, Secretary General (SG, GTF) Dr HS Negi, Advisor, GTF; Member-NTCA; Former Inspector General of Forest and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) Dr Amit Malick along with Wildlife and Territorial field Officers DFOs, ACFs, ROs.
They discussed recent camera trap findings that reveal the movement of tigers between Sikkim and Bhutan, indicating a robust ecosystem and a healthy environment for these majestic animals.
In a gesture of support, protective field gear and a Rapid Response Team (RRT) van were distributed to forest officials, enhancing their capacity for on-ground conservation efforts. This program reaffirms the Sikkim Forest Department’s ongoing commitment, alongside GTF, to safeguarding tiger populations through collaborative strategies and building local capacities, ensuring a sustainable future for these endangered big cats in the region.
