Communal Tension in Tripura: DGP Anurag Dhankar, SP Avinash Rai Visits Affected Pekucherra Area

The unrest began when a Shiv temple was found damaged on Tuesday morning.
In the wake of fresh communal violence in North Tripura, senior police officials, including Director General of Police (Intelligence) Anurag Dhankar and Dhalai Superintendent of Police Avinash Rai, who now holds additional charge of North Tripura, visited the affected Pekucherra area under Panisagar on Wednesday.
Later speaking to reporters, Dhankar who is also the ADGP (Law & Order) assured that adequate police and paramilitary forces have been deployed and the situation is now peaceful.
The unrest began when a Shiv temple was found damaged on Tuesday morning, triggering retaliation that saw an under-construction building in a nearby mosque complex attacked.
The incidents sparked tension in the region. This latest violence follows another communal clash earlier this month in Kadamtala, also in North Tripura, which resulted in one death and 17 injuries.
In response to the escalating tensions, the state government has suspended mobile internet services and replaced North Tripura Superintendent of Police Bhanupada Chakraborty with Avinash Rai.
The suspension, announced by Home Secretary Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakravarty under Section 52 of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, will last for 72 hours and covers SMS, mobile data services, and press messages in the district.
Despite minor clashes yesterday, peace meetings were held, and the DGP confirmed that the situation is now under control. The state remains on alert with continued patrolling in sensitive areas.
