Even After 24 Hours, No Trace of 5 Escaped Prisoners From Morigaon District Jail

A high-level probe into the incident has already begun and attempts are underway to nab the absconding criminals.

Over 24 hours have passed by but still, there is no trace of the 5 under trial prisoners who had escaped from the Morigaon district jail yesterday morning.

Jailer of the Morigaon district jail Hemanta Saikia has been suspended.

Additional District Commissioner Pallabi Kachari has been assigned to conduct further probe into the matter.

It needs to be mentioned that the five prison inmates managed to evade security measures and flee the premises by breaking the rods of their barracks and climbing over a 20-foot tall boundary wall of the jail. The escapees were accused in POCSO cases.

The escaped prisoners, identified as Saifuddin, Jiyarul Islam, Noor Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid.

The jail authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the escape and are trying to determine how they managed to escape.

The incident sparked widespread concern among authorities and the local public.
