To ensure a peaceful and smooth celebration, the administration has taken significant security measures.

Durga Puja, symbolizing the victory of good over evil, is being celebrated with great fervour in Meghalaya, alongwith other parts of India. On the first day of the festival, a large number of devotees flocked Puja pandals, as the rhythmic beat of drums added to the celebrations.

To ensure a peaceful Durga Puja, the administration has taken several steps like deploying police personnel and guards, installing CCTV cameras and regulating timings of pandals.

Additionally, many Puja committees have appointed volunteers to help streamline traffic, and some have hired Home Guard personnel to assist the police.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, Sylvester Nongtnger, announced that Shillong has been divided into 11 sectors, supervised by 31 gazetted officers, including DSPs and ASPs. A total of 309 police personnel have been deployed across various Puja Pandals.

Three department of police forces, Special Operations Teams (SOTs), and five Quick Response Teams from the CRPF have also been stationed in the city for any emergencies. The sector officers have conducted multiple meetings with Puja committees, and contact details of Officers-in-Charge (OCs) and Inspectors-in-Charge (ICs) have been displayed for easy access of the people.
