The two had reportedly received the ammunition from Dimapur in Nagaland and intended to sell it to various others in Tripura.

In a major crackdown, two individuals were arrested with a large cache of live bullets on an express train in North Tripura district, according to a senior Government Railway Police (GRP) official. Uttam Kumar Kaloi, Officer-in-Charge of the GRP station in Dharmanagar, confirmed that the arrests were made during a significant search of the Deoghar Express on Tuesday night.

Acting on suspicion, the police detained two passengers, leading to the discovery of 100 rounds of live ammunition in the bag of one suspect, Dipak Sen. Sen, a resident of Madhupur near the Bangladesh border in Sepahijala district, currently lives at Uttar Madhya Para under Amtali police station. His relative, Prasanjit Das, was also arrested.

The two had reportedly received the ammunition from Dimapur in Nagaland and intended to sell it to various others in Tripura. This arrest highlights the growing concern over arms smuggling in the state.

Just a few months ago, several arms smugglers, including a woman, were caught transporting factory-made pistols from Nagaland to Agartala by train.

The rising threat of arms and ammunition smuggling, alongside infiltration and drug trafficking, has become a major issue for Tripura, which shares its border with Bangladesh on three sides.
