Devastating Landslides in West and South Garo Hills Claim 10 Lives in Two Days

Rescue operations are underway as authorities work to assess the damage and search for survivors.
Heavy rainfall has triggered multiple landslides in Meghalaya’s West and South Garo Hills, claiming 10 lives over the past two days. At least 7 people lost their lives in a tragic landslide in Meghalaya’s South Garo Hills this morning. The incident occurred in Atisia Songmong village under the Gasupara Police Station. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed to carry out search and rescue operations in the area.
This incident follows another landslide less than 24 hours earlier in West Garo Hills, which claimed 3 lives yesterday. Heavy rainfall has been pounding the region for days, causing widespread damage and loss of life.
The Meghalaya government is closely monitoring the situation, and further rescue efforts are ongoing in the affected areas.
