CPIM leader Jitendra Choudhury has announced a large state-wide protest on October 3, accusing the BJP-led government in Tripura.
Tripura has become the “capital of atrocities on women,” declared CPIM leader and Opposition Leader Jitendra Choudhury during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Agartala.
During the press conference, he said that the CPIM will organize a massive rally on October 3, just before Durga Puja, to protest the BJP-led state government’s failure to tackle key issues like law and order, unemployment, poverty, and corruption.
Choudhury pointed to alarming statistics, stating that Tripura records an average of 215 cases of violence against women every month, or 52 incidents per week. He blamed the collapse of law and order on the BJP’s “misgovernance,” adding that police inaction, influenced by ruling party leaders, has worsened the situation.
“In Tripura, atrocities against women, mob lynching, and rampant corruption have become everyday occurrences,” Choudhury said. He also raised concerns over the financial crisis affecting the state’s rural areas, especially during the festive season, and called for immediate payments to MGNREGA and TUEP workers.
The CPIM leader also criticized the state government for not creating enough jobs, accusing it of corruption and nepotism in the few employment opportunities that exist. He warned that the rally on October 3 will be a strong show of public discontent, demanding immediate solutions to the state’s growing problems.
