Assam Attracts Rs 50,000 Cr Investment in 3 Years, RIL to Set up Bio Refinery in State: CM Sarma

Assam has emerged as one of the most investor friendly states in India with leading business houses including Tatas, Reliance Industries, the Adani Group, and foreign companies Airbus and Dassault entering Assam in 2023-24. The state has attracted over Rs 50,000 crore in just 3 years, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said while delivering the inaugural address at The Assam Tribune Dialogues 2024 in Guwahati today.
“The overall investment in the private sector, including the semiconductor assembling unit, amounts to around Rs 50,000 crores in last three years. Tatas’ investment in the semiconductor industry amounting to Rs 27,000 crore, is a significant development that is expected to generate approximately 27,000 direct and indirect employment. Reliance Industries have decided to set up 6 bio refineries in the country and they have chosen Assam as one of the locations. Presence of industrial houses like the Tatas, Reliance and others is going to change the landscape of Assam forever,” the CM said.
Another big and good news is that, the unemployment rate in the state has dropped by a significant 2 percent, from 8 per cent to 6 per cent. Quoting the Economic Survey of 2023-2024, CM Sarma said, “Our unemployment rate has decreased from 8% to 6.1% over the same period. In 2024, no other state has able to reduce its unemployment rate except Assam.”
“In the last 3-4 years our state (Assam) is one among the few states in India that have continued to improve their economy. Assam has registered a growth of 13.9 % in terms of GSDP and 12.84% in terms of per capita income in 2023-2024 making it one of the top 5 fastest growing states of the country”, CM Sarma said.
The inaugural session was virtually attended by DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia who highlighted the Centre’s mega infra projects worth over Rs 1, 30,000 lakh crore which have come up in the Northeast over the last 10 years. The union minister also mentioned that 1174 projects which are ongoing with an investment of Rs 19,000 crores in the region.
“Over Rs 81,000 croer have been invested in Railway projects in the northeast, another Rs 48,000 crore have been invested in road projects in the region, Union Minister Scindia said adding that 5200 kms of new roads have been constructed in northeast in the past 10 years. Eight new airports have been built and 71 new air routes have come up in northeast, the Union Minister said.
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Nani Gopal Mahanta were also present at the inaugural session.
Delivering the welcome address, Babita Rajkhowa – Director Assam Tribune group of publications narrated the humble beginnings of the publication which have grown to become one of the leading dailies in the region.
