Mizoram Pradesh Youth Congress Committee President Laltawnliana has accused the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) government of misusing public funds by using the money to purchase new vehicles, renovate the Speaker bungalows and private residences of Ministers.
He said that Chief Minister Lalduhoma had declared 2024 as a year of fiscal austerity during his speech on December 8, 2023, but the government is not taking any austerity measures and is excessively spending public money and hiking the prices of fuel.
Laltawnliana highlighted several specific expenditures that he believes demonstrate the government’s disregard for austerity measures.
Laltawnliana stated that though the Chief Minister has 5 government vehicles for his personal use, he is also allegedly using vehicles of other officials, and had recently purchased three new Mahindra Thar worth Rs. 51 lakhs for his fleet of escort vehicles. These vehicles are registered in the name of Director General of Police, Mizoram, the Youth Congress president said.
Laltawnliana also criticized the purchase of a Mahindra XUV for the Mizoram Assembly Speaker at Rs. 28 lakhs, and the decoration of the Speaker’s Quarter costing Rs. 23 lakhs.
He further said that an amount of Rs. 110 lakhs was spent for the decoration of the private residences of 9 Ministers and one Adviser to the CM.
