In a horrifying case of mob violence, a woman was publicly stripped and beaten in the Bishalgarh police station area of Sepahijala district, Tripura, on Friday.

The woman, was assaulted by locals when she trying to pay her last respects to her deceased husband, who had committed suicide earlier that day.

Viral visuals show the victim being pulled by her hair, stripped, and brutally beaten by a group of local women and a few men.

She was accused of abandoning her ailing husband and being involved in an illicit relationship, which locals claimed led to her husband’s suicide.

The husband, Narayan Kar, a 35-year-old driver, had reportedly been struggling with severe depression following an accident six months ago that left him disabled. According to sources, his wife left him after the accident, taking their 11-year-old daughter, to her parents’ home. Since then, Narayan had been living alone, dealing with both physical and emotional pain, before tragically taking his own life on Friday.

The victim, after managing to escape the mob in a partially nude state, ran to the Bishalgarh Women’s Police Station for protection, seeking refuge from the brutal attack.

The incident has sparked outrage. Many have condemned the assault as a shameful display of “moral policing” and are questioning the role of local authorities.

The incident has also reignited conversations about the need for stronger law enforcement and protection against mob violence.
