IndiGo will offer direct flight services from Pakyong Airport to major Indian cities--Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bangalore starting October.

Good news for the travellers in Sikkim. Pakyong Airport, the only airport of Sikkim will resume flight operations from October after flight services were suspended in June 2024 owing to operational issues brought on by bad weather and poor visibility at the airport.

A host of new airlines including Buddha Air, Blade Air, Jettwings and Indigo are expected to start flight operations from the airport from October, said Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Director of Airports Authority of India at Pakyong.

It may be mentioned here that currently, only SpiceJet operates to and from flights from Delhi and Kolkata to Pakyong airport. However, due to operational constraints, it suspended flight operations in June 2024.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Sanjeev Kumar Singh said, “Buddha Air, Blade Air, Jettwings and Indigo have shown interest in starting flight service from the Pakyong Airport. Talks are on with these airlines and data analysis are being looked into by the airline and AAI. If all goes smoothly, the operations will probably start from the first week of October 2024.”

This development is expected to restore and enhance connectivity for the region.

The new airlines would provide improved and reliable air travel options for passengers.

Sanjeev Kumar Singh on Sunday said that IndiGo will offer direct flight services from Pakyong Airport to major Indian cities–Kolkata, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bangalore starting October. A high-level team from IndiGo will be visiting the Pakyong Airport in the first week of September for this particular service.

The new routes, operated by IndiGo, will provide residents and travellers from Sikkim with more convenient access to these key destinations, improving travel options and supporting regional growth.
