"The government has undertaken numerous initiatives under the Vibrant Village Concept to develop the border villages of the state," said DT Lepcha

The issue of poor mobile network connectivity in the border villages of Sikkim will be resolved soon, informed Rajya Sabha MP Dorjee Tshering Lepcha.

Speaking to the media after assessing the progress of the tea plantation drive launched a month ago in Parkha Village, under the Gnathang Machong Constituency near the Indo-China border in Sikkim, DT Lepcha said, “The government has undertaken numerous initiatives under the Vibrant Village Concept to develop the border villages of the state.”

“Tourism is the main source of income in these border areas, and there are plenty of homestays here. Since tourists visit these areas in large numbers, it is important to have seamless internet services for hassle-free transactions. To achieve that, we need to have reliable internet services. The government is working towards it,” Lepcha said when asked about the government’s efforts to improve internet services in the border villages.

He also noted that the government is working to resolve issues surrounding land rights in the border villages under the Vibrant Village Concept.

Regarding the tea plantation drive in Parkha Village, DT Lepcha informed that around 45 tea growers have already planted over 1.30 lakh tea saplings in approximately 34 acres of land.

“The tea plantation drive was launched in 2014, and we are continuing it,” Lepcha said, urging the villagers to come out in numbers and participate in the drive.
