"The government’s assistance is merely a token; the vacuum left by Chiranjeet’s loss can never be filled," said CM Saha

Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today handed over a cheque of Rs 4 lakh as an ex-gratia amount to the family of Chiranjeet Dey (30), who tragically lost his life while fearlessly saving others during recent floods in the state.

CM Saha visited his residence, met the grieving family members and given the cheque of Rs 4 lakh sanctioned by the government from its disaster management fund.

The Chief Minister expressed his heartfelt sympathies to Chiranjeet’s parents and sisters, acknowledging the immense void left by his untimely demise.

“The government’s assistance is merely a token; the vacuum left by Chiranjeet’s loss can never be filled,” said CM Saha.

In addition to the financial aid, CM Saha directed the District Magistrate (DM) to ensure that the family receives continued support. This includes maintaining their house and providing social pensions to both of Chiranjeet’s parents, recognizing that he was the sole earning member of the household.

Chiranjeet Dey is one of the 26 victims who tragically lost their lives in the recent floods that devastated the state causing significant damage and affecting around 17 lakh people across the state.

Dey was the sole breadwinner for his family, including his ailing father who suffered from a brain stroke, his elderly mother, and three elder sisters.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced Rs 4 lakh as an ex-gratia assistance to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 2.5 lakh to those injured.

The CM pegged the losses at a staggering Rs 15,000 crore indicating that the entire state has been devastated by the unprecedented floods, the worst in case in 67 years since 1956.
