Meghalaya: 7 Bangladeshi Nationals Including 2 Indian Facilitators Apprehended At Border Checkpoint

Amid the Meghalaya government has imposed night curfews and heightened security along its border with Bangladesh in view of the ongoing turmoil in the neighbouring country, the security forces have arrested as many as 7 Bangladeshi nationals including 2 Indian facilitators at a border checkpoint while they were trying to illegally enter Indian territory.

The Border Security Forces (BSF) along with Meghalaya Police carried out a well-planned operation at the checkpoint on Saturday. During the operation, the joint team arrested these 9 individuals and handed them over to the concerned police station for further legal action, said BSF in a statement.

Meghalaya shares 443 km international boundary with Bangladesh.

Anticipating an influx of illegal immigrants from violence-hit Bangladesh, the East Khasi Hills District Administration in Meghalaya has recently imposed night curfew, while the District Administration of South West Garo Hills has prohibited the movement of people within 200 meters of the Indo-Bangladesh border from 6 PM to 6 AM until further notification amidst reports of terrorist and fundamentalist trying to sneak into Indian territory in the night.

Deputy CM Prestone Tynsong said that the 6 pm-6 am curfew will remain in force until the situation in Bangladesh improves.

Besides, Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram and Tripura also have tightened their border security, deploying additional forces.
