Assam DGP Appeals ULFA-I Not to Disturb Peace In State Day After Militants’ Transit Camp Busted In Tinsukia

"It is always a good idea not to throw a stone in still water because everything has an equal and opposite reaction," said DGP GP Singh.
Within hours of security forces busting a temporary transit camp inside the Tinkopani Reserve Forest along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in eastern Assam’s Tinsukia district, Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh, along with other senior officials, inspected the site and made an appeal to the United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) (ULFA-I) to refrain from disturbing peace in the state.
To step up security measures, DGP Singh held two high-level security review meetings last night in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh with Inspector General of Police (North Eastern Range) Satyaraj Hazarika, Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gaurav Dileep, senior officials from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), top army and Assam Rifles officials, and senior officials from various intelligence agencies.
Speaking to the media after the meetings, DGP Singh emphasised that the Assam Police is taking all necessary steps to neutralize the threat posed by ULFA-I.
“We have inputs that a group of ULFA-I is operating along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia. Law enforcement is closely monitoring the situation,” he said.
DGP Singh also urged ULFA-I to engage in dialogue with the state government if they have grievances while cautioning them against harming innocent civilians.
“It is always a good idea not to throw a stone in still water because everything has an equal and opposite reaction,” said the DGP.
On Wednesday, a joint operation by the Assam Police and Assam Rifles, based on intelligence reports, led to the dismantling of the ULFA-I transit camp in the Tinkopani Reserve Forest. The operation, which took place under the Jagun police outpost, revealed several empty packets with Myanmarese tags, indicating the group’s connections.
Officials revealed that the militants had infiltrated from their bases in Myanmar with a dual objective: to extort from tea gardens and coal business operators, and to carry out subversive activities ahead of the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
