The Minister said that the shortage has happened due to the delays by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).

Meghalaya’s Education Minister, Rakkam A Sangma today said that the 50-60 per cent of the principal and vice principal positions in government higher secondary schools which have been vacant for almost 3 years will now be filled up by first filling up the positions of vice principals and giving them the additional charge of principal.

“The full-fledged principals may take some time, but we are sending all the vice principals of the higher secondary schools in the next one week or two weeks of time who will be in charge of the principal for some time till we send the full-fledged principals.” stated Minister Sangma.

The Minister said that the shortage has happened due to the delays by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).

The Minister said that the interim measures of asking the vice principal to also act as the principal-in charge will remain in place until full-fledged principals are appointed following DPC promotions.

In addition to addressing leadership gaps in higher secondary schools, the state government is preparing to fill 132 vacant assistant professor positions. This imminent recruitment drive will include appointments at Patharkhmah and Rongjeng Degree Colleges.

The government’s swift response aims to stabilize the education system and ensure effective administration and academic leadership in Meghalaya’s government schools.
