Rahul Gandhi Putting Pressure on Centre For Early Solution of Naga Political Issue: Nagaland MP S Suprongmeren Jamir

The Congress has accused the Centre of using delay tactics after having signed the two agreements.
The Congress is committed to fighting for an early and comprehensive solution to the long-standing Naga political issue and party leader Rahul Gandhi is actively putting pressure on the Central Government for the same, said lone Member of Parliament (MP) from Nagaland in Lok Sabha, Congress’s S Suprongmeren Jamir.
Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Jamir said that Rahul Gandhi has questioned the lack of progress despite two agreements being signed with the Government of India in 2015 and 2017, aimed at resolving the issue. Gandhi has been pressuring the government to explain why a solution has not yet been reached.
It may be mentioned here that the Framework Agreement was signed on August 3, 2015, between Centre and NSCN (IM) and the ‘Agreed Position’ was signed on November 17, 2017, with the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs), comprising various Naga political groups.
Jamir expressed the party’s openness to constructive suggestions.
“Congress has decided and committed to fight for the early solution, and for that matter, we are open to any corrections suggested by NGOs, the government, or other leaders. We are fighting for the solution and are ready to make any necessary corrections to achieve an early resolution of the Naga political issue,” said Jamir.
The Congress has accused the Centre of using delay tactics after having signed the two agreements.
“During the January 2020 acknowledgement on the Nagaland Legislative Assembly floor, the then GoI’s interlocutor for the peace talks, Nagaland Governor RN Ravi congratulated PM Modi and the Union Home Ministry, declaring that the final agreements would be finalised in October 2019. However, rather than implementing the agreements early, the centre began changing the interlocutor, which was already agreed upon,” said Jamir.
He also blamed the state government for easing opposition in the current government to fight for an early solution citing that now no one is in a position to speak out in favour of the welfare of the people giving the centre a way to keep the government voiceless.
The Congress stated that since the government is facing a problem in pronouncing the settlement, all Nagas, Hohos, civil bodies, and NGOs all have to come forward and put pressure on the the central government
They must also visit our national workers and ascertain the actual problems.
“We should not simply leave it to our national workers. Until and unless Nagas come out with one voice, one platform to solve the Framework Agreement and agreed position the issue will go on,” Jamir added.
