Breaking: Unknown Miscreants Set PWD Dept Vehicle On Fire In Nongmynsong, Shillong

Since April 3 there has been over 10 incidents of petrol bombs being thrown at government and police vehicles and buildings.

There seems to be no end to violence in Meghalaya as the state continues to report incidents of petrol bomb attacks and vehicles being set on fire in the last 3 months.

In a fresh incident of violence, a vehicle of the Meghalaya Public Works Department was set on fire by a group of unknown miscreants at Nongmynsong, Shillong late last night.
The vehicle was completely damaged.

This incident has been reported amid several incidents of petrol bomb attacks targeting government vehicles and buildings.

The US had issued an advisory asking its people not to travel to Meghalaya. Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong had strongly contested it but with another incident of arson, the Meghalaya Government will now have a lot of answering to do.

Series of Incidents of arson and petrol bomb attacks so far:

Since April 3 there has been over 10 incidents of petrol bombs being thrown at government and police vehicles and buildings raising serious questions about the state’s law and order situation.

On July 25, a petrol bomb was lobbed at the residence of one named Julie Lyngdoh in Barapathar area, just 3 kilometers from the state secretariat.

On May 2, a vehicle belonging to the Directorate of Water Resources caught fire in Shillong after miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at it.

On May 1, one petrol bomb was hurled at the office of the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation (MGCC) in Shillong and two bombs were hurled at the Shillong Sadar police station and Rynjah police station.

A similar attack targeted a camp of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Shillong’s Mawlai area on the night of May 1.

On April 30, two incidents of petrol bomb attacks were reported – one on the Jowai Police Reserve where one vehicle was damaged and the other was reported from the Meghalaya Government Construction Corporation office in Shillong. As per CCTV footage, the bomb missed the parked cars by a whisker resulting in zero damage to any property.

On April 26, a petrol bomb was hurled at the residence of Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar. The bomb had landed at Dhar’s balcony. No one was injured in the attack.

On April 24, a petrol bomb was hurled at a police vehicle that was escorting NEEPCO Director (Personnel) Major General (retired) RK Jha in Shillong.

On April 3, a petrol bomb was hurled at the Mawlai Police Station damaging a police vehicle parked in the premises of the Police Station.
