Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi spoke to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday, offering help mitigating challenges posed by the floods in the state.

Taking to social media late Monday night, Chief Minister Sarma informed that Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi called him earlier in the evening.

“He was gracious to offer us the capabilities of Odisha’s disaster management system to help mitigate the challenges posed by the Assam floods. On behalf of the people of Assam, I have conveyed our heartfelt gratitude for his concern. We agreed to remain in touch if we require assistance,” Chief Minister Sarma added.

It may be mentioned here that Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to the Assam Chief Minister on Monday and reviewed the state’s flood situation.

Home Minister Shah assured Chief Minister Sarma that the Centre would provide assistance and support to the National Disaster Response Force to combat the crisis.

Even though the flood has shown significant development in the state, three more people, including two minors, died in the state in the last 24 hours.

According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority’s flood report, the two minors died in Dhubri, while the third death was reported from Nagaon.

Meanwhile, 196 animals, including 10 rhinos, have died in the famed Kaziranga National Park in the flood.

The casualties include 165 Hog Deer, 10 rhinos, 2 Swamp Deer, and 2 Sambar, all of which drowned in the inundated parklands. Additionally, 2 Hog Deer were fatally struck by vehicles, 14 animals perished despite receiving care, and 1 Otter pup succumbed to other causes.

Despite the challenges, the park’s rescue teams have actively saved wildlife during the floods. 143 animals, including 2 rhino calves and 2 elephant calves, were successfully rescued and provided with necessary care.

However, the situation remains grim, with 26 forest camps still submerged under floodwaters.
