Kaziranga National Park Sees Worst Floods in recent years, 174 animals including 10 rhinos dead

The world famous Kaziranga National Park (KNP) is reeling under one of the worst floods since 2020. The water level has risen to 87.47 metres, the maximum in past four years. In 2020, the water level in the Park, home to over 2,500 one-horned rhinos, was 87.35 metres.
In 2017, the water level rose to 87.27 metres killing the maximum number of animals at 291 including 24 rhinos.
In 2019, 223 animals including 21 rhinos died due to floods. The flood water level that year stood at 87.13 metres.
The floods in 2020, killed 157 animals including 19 rhinos.
This year, so far 174 animals including 10 rhinos have died due to the deluge that has inundated large areas of the Park spread across 42,996 hectares. At least 135 animals were rescued today, the official data said.
