138 animals including 6 rhinos perish in floodwaters in Kaziranga National Park

The park authorities have managed to rescue 100 animals.
A total of 138 animals have died after drowning in the floodwaters that swept through Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve in Assam.
Among those dead are 125 hog deers, 6 rhinos, 3 swamp deers, two Samabr, one Rhesus Macaque and one Otter (Pup).
Meanwhile, the park authorities have managed to rescue 100 animals.
Besides other parts of the state, Kaziranga National Park, the UNESCO World Heritage site known for its rich biodiversity has been severely impacted by the deluge, caused by incessant monsoon rains.
Currently, a total of 70 forest camps out of 233 camps in the park are still inundated.
The flood situation in Assam continues to be grim. The death toll mounted to 72 as of July 8 since May 28, 2024.
