Two women arrested with drugs worth Rs 3 lakh along Tripura-Mizoram border

Continuing the war on Drugs in Tripura, the state police have seized a huge quantity of drugs with an estimated market value of Rs 3 lakh and arrested two women in connection with the seizure along the Tripura-Mizoram border.

Based on inputs, an operation was carried out by a team of Damcherra Police at the Narendranagar Naka gate in Damcherra, along the Tripura-Mizoram inter-state border yesterday.

During the operation, police detained two women displaying suspicious behaviour. On checking thoroughly, the police team recovered 10 packets containing 26 kilograms of dry cannabis from their possession and arrested them, said Sanjay Majumder, in-charge of Damcherra Police Station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the women had travelled from Agartala to Panisagar Railway Station by train and were en route to Assam via the East Narendranagar Naka Point in Damcherra.

Arrested drug peddlers have been identified as Ajmiri Begum from Vaishali district of Bihar and Salini Das from West Bengal.

Earlier, on Tuesday, police arrested two men, including a police constable, with over 2 kg of heroin with an estimated value of Rs 25 crore at the same border.
