Assam: Diarrhea claims 11 lives in Tinsukia, Japanese encephalitis kills 3 minors in Jorhat

To try and contain the diarrhea outbreak, the tea garden officials in Tinsukia imposed a ban on the sale of meat and fish.

Eastern Assam is currently facing a severe health crisis as outbreaks of diarrhea and Japanese encephalitis have created havoc in Tinsukia and Jorhat districts. These diseases have claimed the lives of 14 people including 3 minors, in just a week, raising alarm among health officials and residents.

11 tea garden labourers have died from diarrhea in a span of one week at the Tongona Gaon Tea Estate in Tinsukia district’s Doomdooma.

To try and contain the diarrhea outbreak, the tea garden officials in Tinsukia imposed a ban on the sale of meat and fish and provided sanitisation facilities in the tea garden.

3 minors have died from Japanese encephalitis in Jorhat.

The three children were admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital after reportedly experiencing fever, diarrhea, and body pain. After high fever, they died in the hospital.

The deceased minors hailed from the Golaghat, Sivasagar and Jorhat districts.
