Criminal serving lifer in Tripura’s hi-tech Central Jail escapes

Surprisingly, Swarna Kamal Tripura escaped from the high-tech jail for the second time. Earlier, he had escaped from the central jail in 2016 but was re-arrested from Manubazar later.
In a startling development, a notorious criminal who was serving life imprisonment in a murder case at the central jail in Tripura’s Bishalghar subdivision of Sepahijala district has reportedly escaped from the central correctional center.
The fugitive prisoner has been identified as Swarna Kamal Tripura, who was arrested from Manu Bazar in 2014 and has an Arms Act case against him.
The breach came to light on Tuesday morning during the routine inmate count.
According to a source, Swarna Kamal Tripura managed to unlock his solitary confinement cell and absconded around 12:45 AM.
IG jail Ramesh Reddy, accompanied by the local SP and DM, visited the jail to assess the situation after the incident.
An investigation is underway to identify the loopholes that led to the escape and how the incident occurred, and a combing operation is also underway to apprehend the fugitive.
