A look at highest run-chases in T20 cricket

Last night, Punjab Kings chased down 262 runs set by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) game to chase down the highest T20 target ever. Let
Explosive half-centuries by Phil Salt (75 in 37 balls) and Sunil Narine (71 in 32 balls) and some cameos by the middle-order helped KKR put up 261/6 in their 20 overs. However, Punjab came out swinging from ball one, with Jonny Bairstow’s 108* in 48 balls, Prabhsimran Singh’s quick-fire 54 in 20 deliveries and Shashank Singh’s 28-ball 68 helping PBKS chase it down with 8 balls and eight wickets to spare.

This still remains the highest run-chase in T20 internationals. West Indies set SA 259 runs to win after 118 in 46 balls by Johnson Charles and 51 in 27 balls by Kyle Mayers taking WI to 258/5 in their 20 overs. A 44-ball century by Quinton de Kock, a quickfire 28-ball 68 by Reeza Hendricks and a cameo of 38 in 21 balls by Aiden Markram took SA to the target with seven balls in hand.

Quickfire knocks from Will Jacks (96 in 45 balls) and Laurie Evans (85 in 37 balls) took Surrey to 252/7 in their 20 overs. However, Middlesex skipper Stephen Eskinazi (73 in 39 balls), Max Holden (68* in 35 balls) and Ryan Higgins (48 in 28 balls) spoiled the party for Surrey, chasing down the total with seven wickets and four balls intact.

After a 54-ball 105 from Martin Guptill and a 33-ball 76 from Colin Munro took the Kiwis to 243/6 in their 20 overs, skipper David Warner’s 24-ball 59, D’arcy Short’s 76 in 44 balls and valuable cameos from Glenn Maxwell (31* in 14 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (36 in 14 balls) took Aussies to the target with seven balls and five wickets in hand.

Quickfire half-centuries from Saim Ayub (58 in 33 balls) and Babar Azam (73 in 39 balls) propelled Peshawar to 242/6 in their 20 overs. However, a an explosive ton by Rilee Rossouw (121 in 51 balls) and a 25-ball 52 by Kieron Pollard helped Multan secure the target with five balls and six wickets in hand.
