Manipur: Security forces seize brown sugar concealed inside pumpkins, 2 arrested

The arrested persons have been identified as--Abdul Mannan Mazumder and Khalil Ulla Barbhuiya.

Security forces in Manipur today recovered 363.45 grams of brown sugar hidden inside pumpkins from an Assam-bound truck and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

A team of the 39th Assam Rifles and Jiribam Police intercepted a truck which was heading towards Assam’s Cachar district from Tipaimukh, Pherzawl district of Manipur.

The arrested persons have been identified as–Abdul Mannan Mazumder and Khalil Ulla Barbhuiya.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh took to X and lauded the efforts of the Assam Rifles and Jiribam Police.

“SECURITY FORCES INTERCEPT SUSPECTED BROWN SUGAR CONCEALED INSIDE PUMPKINS! Great job by the 39th AR team and Jiribam PS for their vigilant actions in intercepting the brown sugar from a pickup truck heading towards Cachar from Tipaimukh, Pherzawl District. Upon inspection, the team recovered 30 soap caps, collectively weighing approximately 363.45 grams (excluding the weight of the soap caps). Two persons, Abdul Mannan Mazumder and Khalil Ulla Barbhuiya were apprehended and handed over to Jiribam Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings,” CM N Biren Singh posted on X.

It may be mentioned here that drugs worth over Rs 60,000 crore were seized, destroyed 20,000 hectares of poppy plantations, 2,461 people have been arrested, and 3,066 cases have been registered in Manipur since 2022 when the N Biren Singh-led BJP government started its war on drugs to make the state drug-free and help eradicate drug abuse and trafficking.

Earlier, in the morning, sharing a video on X, Chief Minister N Biren Singh showcased what exactly led the state government to launch the war on drugs campaign.
