Nagaland: Unprecedented rainfall since April 19 damages dam and crops, leaves villagers devastated

Incessant rainfall since April 19, have lashed several villages and towns in the Mokokchung district of Nagaland leaving a trail of devastation and destruction.
The Tzutsung irrigation dam at Moalenden Village, under the jurisdiction of Longsa Village has been damaged due to excessive water flow during the flash flood, which resulted in the destruction of many agricultural fields along the riverbanks.

Longsa village, renowned for its substantial vegetable production, has been the worst hit.
On April 23, the Mokokchung district administration conducted a spot verification visit to Longsa village and its affected areas, in collaboration with members of the Longsa Village Council.

As per sources, out of the approximately 280 families engaged in farming in the region, 182 families have been severely affected, while 31 families have experienced minor impacts. Among the affected families, 18 families engaged in vegetable and fruit cultivation were affected, fishery ponds of 24 families were washed away.
With the advent of the spring season and the onset of monsoon, this is the crucial time for sowing seeds and nurturing crops.
Excessive rain has damaged several chilli farms in the district.
The Tzütsüng Bridge connecting Tuensang district is also reported to have been damaged.
