The Election Commission of India has ordered re-elections at 8 polling stations under 4 assembly segments in 4 districts of Arunachal Pradesh. The re-voting will take place on April 24 from 6am to 2 pm.

The polling stations where fresh voting will take place are Sario polling station in Bameng constituency of East Kameng district, Langte Loth in Nyapin constituency of Kurung district, Dingser, Bogis Siyum, Jimbari and Lengi under Nacho constituency of Upper Subansiri district and Bogne and Molom polling stations under Rumgong constituency of Siang district.

The voting done on April 19 at these constituencies were declared void by the election commission after reports of violence and booth snatching came to fore.

A statement was issued by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Arunachal Pradesh, Pawan Kumar Sain, citing an order of the EC under section 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. “The Election Commission of India has, under Sections 58(2) and 58A(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, directed that the poll taken on 19th April, 2024 (Friday) at the Polling Stations mentioned below against the Parliamentary/Assembly Constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh to be void and appoints the 24th April, 2024 (Wednesday) as the date and fixes the hours from 6:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. for taking a Fresh Poll at the said Polling Stations”, it said.

“Ensure that wide publicity is given by beating of drums or any other convenient mode in the aforementioned polling stations areas. The political parties and contesting candidates to be informed in writing about the fresh poll being taken on the said schedule. Scrutiny of Form 17A of these polling stations shall be done immediately after the poll on the same day”, CEO said in the statement.

On Saturday, Pawan Kumar Sain said that the voter turnout for the parliamentary seats was recorded at 72.74% and for the Assembly seats stood at 76.44% as per initial estimates as 14 polling parties were still on way to Itanagar and their reports were awaited. Polling parties have returned from 2212 polling stations.

Arunachal East Parliamentary recorded a turnout of 76.37% and Arunachal West recorded a poll percentage of 70.11%. These numbers might change as the figures are still being collated.
