Himanta Biswa Sarma also said that in Nagaon and Karimganj the BJP will face a direct contest from the AIUDF and not the Congress

Assam Chief Minister and BJP’s top strategist for Northeast, Himanta Biswa Sarma today said that he belives BJP will have a clean sweep in all the 5 seats that went for polls in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

While being engaged in high decibel campaign to drum support in favour of the BJP as well as the NDA candidates, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is also quite confident that the party will perform big in the second phase too.

In fact, CM Sarma after detailed calculations see that it will be a victory for the BJP in Jorhat, where incumbent MP Topon Kumar Gogoi is contesting against 2-time MP Gaurav Gogoi, who is also the deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking to newspersons after addressing a rally in support of BJP’s Diphu candidate Amar Singh Tisso, the Assam CM said, “We will win in Jorhat by not less than a margin of 2 lakh votes. I am not so wrong in assessing the voters, we are winning in Jorhat by a margin of 2 lakh votes.

It is a clean sweep in all the 5 seats, there are no elections (in these 5 seats). In Assam there is no election (contest) in 11 seats, we also have got some control in 2 other seats.”

Regarding the party’s prospects in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “In Nagaon, it is good (BJP prospects), I will campaign in Rupohi and Samaguri, after that I can say about the clear picture. All I can say now is that our position is quite good now. There is no Congress, our main contest is with the AIUDF in Nagaon. In Karimganj too our main contest is with the AIUDF. Congress is nowhere in the picture. Except for 1 seat BJP is leading in all seats, but in Nagaon and Karimganj we are facing contest with the AIUDF, after elections I will be able to tell as to how things went, but we are making leads daily.”

Sarma believes that the party candidate will win by a record margin in the Diphu seat which is going to polls in the second phase on April 26.

“In the Diphu Lok Sabha constituency our candidate Amar Singh Tisso is contesting. We will win here by a margin of 3-4 lakh voters. Daily 3000 to 4000 people are joining in BJP. Earlier there was no development in Karbi Anglong, but now many works (development) have been done. The team (BJP) has grown stronger. So I believe that in every seat of Assam we will win by a bigger margin as compared to the previous Lok Sabha elections,” CM Sarma said.

The second phase of polls for five Lok Sabha seats in Assam – Silchar, Karimganj, Diphu, Nagaon, and Darrang-Udalguri will be held on April 26.
