Voting for Inner and Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seats tomorrow. 10 candidates in fray

The Inner Manipur seat will see BJP's Thounaojam Basanta Kr Singh contesting against Congress' Agomcha Bimol Akoijam and Maheshwar Thounaojam of RPI (A) and R K Somendro of MPP
The stage is all set for elections to the Inner Manipur and some parts of the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha seats tomorrow. Voting will begin at 7:00 am.
A total of 6 candidates are in the fray in Inner Manipur and 4 candidates in Outer Manipur seat.
In Inner Manipur, BJP has fielded Law and Education minister in the Biren Singh government, Thounaojam Basanta Kr Singh, who is the son of former Union Minister Thounaojam Chaoba Singh and the sitting MLA of Nambol.
BJP has replaced its sitting MP Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh and fielded Th Basanta Kr Singh in the Inner Manipur seat.
The Manipur Peoples Party (MPP) has fielded popular actor and social activist-turned politician, R K Somendro who would be contesting as an Independent candidate, while Congress fielded well-known political commentator and professor of JNU’s School of Social Sciences, Agomcha Bimol Akoijam.
The Revolutionary Party of India (Athawale) has put forth party general secretary Maheshwar Thounaojam as its candidate for the Inner Manipur seat. There is also an independent candidate, Hourungbam Sarat Singh in the fray.
In the Outer Manipur seat, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has fielded K Timothy Zimik, a retired Indian Revenue Service officer. NPF dropped its sitting Lok Sabha MP Lorho S Pfoze and fielded K Timothy Zimik.
BJP did not field a candidate for Outer Manipur and extended support to Zimik.
The Congress has fielded former MLA of Ukhrul Alfred K Arthur.
There are two independent candidates – Alyson Abonmei and S Kho John in the battle for Outer Manipur.
All 32 Assembly constituencies of Inner Manipur and 15 Assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur will go to polls tomorrow. Voting for the remaining 13 Assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase of polling on April 26.
A total of 15 lakh 44 thousand 652 voters including 7 lakh 41 thousand 849 male, 8 lakh 2 thousand 557 female and 246 transgender voters will exercise their franchise at 2107 polling stations in the phase-I.
The 32 Assembly constituencies of Inner Manipur are–Khundrakpam, Heingang, Khurai, Kshetrigao, Thongju, Keirao, Andro, Lamlai, Thangmeiband, Uripok, Sagolband, Keishamthong, Singjamei, Yaiskul, Wangkhei, Sekmai, Lamsang, Konthoujam, Patsoi, Langthabal, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Wangoi, Mayang Imphal, Nambol, Oinam, Bishnupur, Moirang, Thanga, Kumbi, Lilong,Thoubal, and Wangkhem.
The 15 Assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur which will go to polls tomorrow are–Heirok, WangjingTentha, Khangabok, Wabgai, Kakching, Hiyanglam, Sugnoo, Chandel (ST), Saikul (ST), Kangpokpi, Saitu (ST), Henglep (ST), Churachandpur (ST), Saikot (ST), and Singhat (ST).
The remaining 13 Assembly constituencies which will go to polls on April 26 are– Jiribam, Tengnoupal (ST), Phungyar (ST), Ukhrul (ST), Chingai (ST), Karong (ST), Mao (ST), Tadubi (ST), Tamei (ST), Tamenglong (ST), Nungba (ST), Tipaimukh (ST), and Thanlon (ST).
2019 Results of Inner Manipur
BJP’s R.K. Ranjan Singh won the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He polled 2,63,632 votes. Congress candidate Oinam Nabakishore Singh polled 2,45,877 votes. CPI Moirangthem N Singh polled 1,33,813 votes. Independent candidate Kaiku Rajkumar polled 81,634 votes
2019 Results of Outer Manipur
NPF’s Lorho S. Pfoze won the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. He polled 3,63,527 votes. BJP candidate H Shokhopao Mate (Benjamin) polled 2,89,745 votes, while Congress candidate K James polled 1,52,510 votes.
