Manipur Chief N Biren Singh today said that the top priorities of his government is to bring permanent peace and to provide constitutional safeguard to the indigenous people in the state.
This he said when asked about the BJP’s top priority or agenda keeping in mind of the Lok Sabha elections.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh highlighting about constitunal protection to the indigenous population said, “What has been going on since May 3, the indigenous people are demanding for constitutional protection . So under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also doing a lot.”
“Our aim is to bring peace in Manipur and fully protect the indigenous people constitutionally, that is our priority,” the Manipur CM further said.
Asked as what are the present issues in the state, especially when elections are just round the corner, N Biren Singh said, “There is a demand that the porous 398-km border with Myanmar be fenced, this is a people’s demand. Free Movement Regime, in which free movement (Myanmar) is allowed within 16 kilometres, should be removed.
There is also a demand that illegal migrants be flushed out through NRC. So these are the few agendas. PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have been doing a lot, like the fencing (India-Myanmar border) has started. The FMR has also been scrapped. The screening of illegal Myanmar migrants has started through biometrics and eye scanning. The only remaining issue is to implement the NRC. The people of Manipur would be happy with the decision of NRC.”
CM N Biren Singh also said that peace is gradually returning to the state and maintained there is a considerable improvement in the law and order situation.
“The law and order has improved since the last 3-4 months, the law and order situation is good. But unfortunately an incident took place yesterday, but the situation is under control now. There is not much problem in terms of law and order. Peace and normalcy is returning, ” N Biren Singh said.
